It’s no secret that Lovebrunch loves brunch. Looking back on our one-year anniversary, we ticked off 50 breakfast spots in Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy and the Netherlands. Now it’s time to pick our favourites, a task that was much more challenging than we thought! After hours of deliberation, here they are: the Top 10 Brunch Spots in Europe 2015.
#10 God Save the Food | Milan
Viva Italia. At this locals-only spot you’ll find the beautiful people of Milan, along with the freshest sandwiches, salads, smoothies, hash browns and an Italian take on eggs Benedict. Bring your sunglasses.
#9 Coromandel | Rome
A moody interior with light, shadows, glass and vintage playing cards brings a magical atmosphere to this breakfast parlour hidden in the alleyways of Rome. Enjoy the different crostatas, pancakes, eggs Benedict with proper prosciutto, and some very special croissants – buon appetito.
#8 Little Collins | Amsterdam
Named after a street in the fashionable city of Melbourne, Little Collins does a great job of representing the city down under which is renowned for its world class food and coffee. Here you’ll find baked kasundi eggs with real sourdough, a super eggs Benedict and French toast with a delicious twist. Good luck getting a table after 11am.
#7 Roamers | Berlin
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” And go to Roamers.
#6 Tinsel | Antwerp
The title of best pancakes in Europe belongs to Tinsel, in the underrated city of Antwerp. We also loved their granola, the farmhouse style Dutch bread and the homemade iced tea. Put this sweet little brunch spot on your map.
#5 Caravan | Antwerp
Antwerp is also spoilt with the one-and-only Caravan. Expect a unique menu, stunning plating, seriously good food and interesting surrounds too. On a sunny day, you can also enjoy the outdoor terrace. This Belgian hotspot has it all.
#4 Birkenwald | Münster
We were blown away when these outrageously delicious coconut pancakes turned up at our table. The caramelised banana French toast and homemade scrolls were equally amazing. If this ranking would be about food alone, Birkenwald might just rank as #1.
#3 Bakers & Roasters | Amsterdam
For breakfast, brunch or lunch, the iconic Bakers & Roasters is always full, and the atmosphere is unbeatable. The Kiwi/Brazilian mashup produces stellar eggs 9 different ways, breakfast cocktails, stunning salads and the best home baking lineup ever.
#2 District Coffee | Berlin
A third wave coffee kingdom in a stunning multi-level building, with a relaxed Sunday brunch atmosphere. The super fresh breakfast fare is traditional with a twist, and lets the quality ingredients take centre stage. You will be back for more, we promise.
#1 Silo Coffee | Berlin
Berlin hipsters and techies unite at Silo Coffee, to drink the sweet brews and feast on baked eggs with the famous Sironi’s sourdough, or the insane bircher muesli with rosewater poached plums. Food and coffee here is worth becoming a resident entrepreneur for, and the menu is always evolving. You’ll either love or hate the atmosphere, but this about food and coffee, and Silo just owns it.
How did we rate this list? As usual we care mostly about the food, then the coffee, and a little bit the atmosphere too. Also deserving of a special mention are the following:
* Kameha Grand | Bonn – around public holidays this luxury design hotel in Bonn offers an incredible Brunch buffet.
* The Barn | Berlin – probably the best coffee in Germany, these guys take their art very seriously. Drop by for a caffeine fix.
* γaίaς γεύσεις | Crete – a gorgeous bakery full of Greek breads, pastries, sandwiches, loukoumades and even ice cream. Bliss!
