Life whizzes by all too fast – so it’s important to take time out to celebrate special occasions and milestones with your family and friends. From birthdays and anniversaries, to engagements and christenings, today we’ve found you the perfect spot for a celebratory champagne brunch.
The five star Excelsior Hotel Ernst Cologne is not for the modest, nor those looking for a sleepy eggs-on-toast type of morning affair. Instead the lavish Piano Brunch buffet spans three rooms and three hours, and features white gloved waiters, silver cutlery, a spectacular cheese board, real honeycomb, freshly prepared sushi, and a chocolate fondue station… to name just a few things.
Of course if you do just want eggs on toast, you’ll be pleased to find a selection of rolls and freshly whipped butter to top with scrambled eggs or an omelette that is made to order, and prepared right in front of you.
Then you can head over to the charcuterie zone where fish takes centre stage, from the beautifully arranged lobster salads with cocktail sauce, to the oyster bar and whole roasted salmon – with fresh smoked salmon on the side of course.
Lots of little things on little plates will give you a chance to try all the different flavours of the day, but make sure you save some space for the very special main courses, a feast of classical German dishes.
On a cold winter’s morning, eyes shine at the cornfed chicken breast with spätzle, and the beef fillet in mushroom sauce with creamy potato gratin. The quality of ingredients is sky high and well suited to the extravagant atmosphere.
Excelsior Hotel Ernst shows off its fine dining expertise in the main serving room, ensuring all guests receive a grand experience. My gorgeous mother-in-law gifted us a voucher for the Piano Brunch, which was a great idea and would make a perfect Christmas gift too.
The highlight of the afternoon was the gnocchi, swirled in a hollowed out and heated parmesan wheel, which is a genius idea that is so lip smackingly delicious, we challenge you not to go back for seconds.
And of course the grand finale: dessert. Try the cherry clafoutis, or the brownie… the tiramisu or cream puff… or best of all, get involved with the fresh strawberry and pineapple skewers and that chocolate fountain.
The perfect celebratory brunch.
